Stone chips

Mechanical damage to the coating due to projected small stones / chippings (e.g., loose gravel).

Swelling

Very slow evaporation of residual solvent from freshly applied paint. This causes widespread swelling or sweating of the paint surface. Problem can lead to a reduction of gloss (hazing) and in small areas, edge zone marking (see chapter on “Edge-Zone Marking”)

Water spotting

Water spotting normally appears as light, whitish circular spots on the paint surface caused by the drying of a solution of water combined with mineral salts. The inner areas are normally intact, whilst the outer edge is often slightly raised.
